Deterministic Workspace Restoration for Multi-Display macOS.
A native, lightweight engine that captures and restores your complete window layout across monitors in under 20ms. Restores deep browser tabs, IDE split ratios, and adapts to volatile iPad Sidecar UUIDs.
Test the Restoration Engine Right in Your Browser
Aftur executes a direct 5-step sandwich geometry sequence (`setSize` → `setPosition` → `setSize` → `setPosition` → `raiseWindow`) to ensure macOS WindowServer commits exact coordinates without race conditions.
Toggle between physical workstation setups to see sub-20ms deterministic window placement.
Engineered for Multi-Monitor Edge Cases
Other window managers crash or scramble windows when MST hubs or Sidecar disconnect. Here is how Aftur guarantees deterministic execution.
4-Tier Hardware Topology Matcher
Survives MST dock disconnects and HDMI swaps using a 4-tier composite identifier chain: CoreGraphics EDID UUID → Vendor/Model/Serial Composite → Localized Name & Resolution → Aspect Ratio.
Sidecar USB ⇄ WiFi Drift Aliasing
When an iPad switches from wired USB to wireless WiFi, macOS generates a brand new ephemeral display UUID. Aftur correlates virtual display roles and maps windows back to their intended iPad viewport.
Browser State & Tab Injection
Restores multi-window tab layouts across Brave, Google Chrome, Arc, Safari, and Microsoft Edge using non-blocking AppleScript automation with zero-stdout purity.
IDE Internal Split Divider Recovery
Traverses the AXUIElement accessibility tree inside VS Code, Cursor, and Xcode to measure and restore vertical and horizontal split-pane ratios (e.g. 60/40 editor/terminal).
750ms Debounced Autonomous Wake
When waking from sleep, macOS sends multiple rapid bursts of screen parameter notifications while DisplayPort negotiates. Aftur coalesces notifications and waits for displays to be online before restoring.
Pure-stdio Model Context Protocol
Includes a native Model Context Protocol (MCP) server over pure stdio. Connect Claude Desktop, Cursor, or AI agent swarms to query displays and manipulate window state programmatically.
Built for Terminal Ninjas & Automation
Everything accessible via the menu bar is equally scriptable via the native `aftur` CLI or `aftur://` URL scheme.
Pay once. Run perpetually offline.
Zero subscriptions. Zero telemetry. No forced logins. Cryptographically signed Ed25519 license keys bound to your Mac hardware.
Test all Pro features offline. When the 14 active days conclude, Profile #1 remains free forever across up to 2 displays.
For power users, developers, and multi-monitor engineers. Unlocks everything on up to 3 of your Macs.
For engineering teams, design studios, and organizations deploying fleet-wide macOS workspace orchestration.
Technical Details & Guarantees
Unlike calendar trials that tick down while your laptop is closed over the weekend, Aftur counts real active workdays (days where you actually restored or captured a workspace layout). You get 14 distinct days of full Pro access. When the trial expires, Profile #1 remains free forever across up to 2 displays. Your saved profile configurations are never deleted.
Yes. Aftur was specifically engineered to overcome MST hub issues. When two identical Dell or LG displays share the same vendor and zero serial number over an MST daisy chain, Aftur sorts them deterministically by coordinate origins and assigns stable ordinal suffixes (`-#1`, `-#2`) so your IDE and terminal windows never swap screens on sleep wake.
100% yes. Aftur’s licensing engine embeds the studio Ed25519 public key in the binary. When you activate your license, the digital signature and your Mac’s hardware UUID hash are verified completely on-device using CryptoKit. Once verified, the signed receipt is cached in your macOS Keychain (`kSecAttrAccessibleAfterFirstUnlockThisDeviceOnly`). You can take your Mac to an air-gapped SCIF or mountain cabin and it will run forever.
Aftur requires macOS Accessibility permissions (`AXUIElement`) to inspect window bounds and set frames, and optional Automation permissions (`AppleScript`) if you wish to restore browser tabs in Brave, Chrome, Safari, or Arc. Aftur does not run kernel extensions, does not require root permissions, and includes an automated 1-click repair if macOS ad-hoc TCC code-signing drifts.
